REGROWTH OF CORNEAL TISSUE

REGROWTH OF CORNEAL TISSUE

New researches have identified to grow the corneas from the adult derived stem cell which are used to restore the human vision.
In the identification process a molecule called ABCB5 actas a marker to find the limbal stem cells.
We can find this limbal stem cells in the eye bal's limbal epithelium, it is also knowns as limbus, which can help to maintain and reproduce the corneal tissue. The loss of limbal stem cells may leads to blindness

Researches have made to grow the stem cells which is taked from the deceased donor and it as regrowed anatomically in which antibodies are used to ABCB5 to zero in the stem cells of the donor.
Bruce Ksander from the us Massachusetts eye and ear infirmary said that " The limals stem cells transplantation is rare and which is detetermined by the rare cells of the stem cells.

Ksander also said that" This research is an example of the researches based on the transplantation and it is also used in easy restoring of the corneal surface.
Through a mouse model it is found that the molecule ABCB5 also occur in the limbal stem cells. Which is responsible for the maintanence, survival, corneal development and repair.

If a mice lose its ABCB5 gene will contain less number of limal stem cells, also the corneas are healed very poorly.

Markus Frank from the us Boson childrens hospital had also noted that the stem cells are responsible for the survival of the limbal stem cells, also protect it from the apoptosis.
