Reprountion Of Corneas to Restrict Blindness

Reprountion Of Corneas to Restrict Blindness

From the reports of the mail online it was noted that the scientists had found the new way to cure the blindness by the regrowth of the corneal cells.

In us they had found stem cells which are responsible for the regrowth of the cornea, which is the layer found in the front of the eye. They also successfully used it to the mice for the growth of the corneal tissue.

This stem cells are also called as Limbal stem cell, which is used basically in the regrowth of the cornea.
But after number of experiments it is found that Abcb5 protein is placed on the surface of the LCSs.
This protein is used as the marker for the LCS. They had also transplanted the human LCS to the mice which lacks these cells and it alsodeveloped cornea in five weeks and it was maintained for one year.

No it was created a new hope to use in in human corneal transplants, to reproduce the cornea and lead it into success.

It is also depend on the condition in which they are being treated and also its success rates. Corneal transplants success rate is ranging from 60% to 90%.
But some more additional researches and tests are required even before they are treated in human beings
